IMUS Be Careful Not to Throw Stones

Everything that has happened, in such a rapid-fire way, with Don Imus, is amazing. There are many things wrong with this story. I have listened to people call his comments reprehensible, unspeakable and every other adjective in the dictionary. What I cannot stand is the obvious double standard taking place. Look who is calling for his ouster - Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, CBS and MSNBC -- whoa! You don' want to "offend" them now do you?

Jesse has a history of blackmailing corporate America; Rev Al has his own history of make racially insensitive remarks. Who spoke out? No One. No one wants to be targeted as speaking out against "Jesse" and "Al." My God, Martin Luther King they are not - not even in the same ballpark. As bad as they wanna be - they never will.

If we are to have a standard in America - we need one standard - not a double standard. If something is "OK" for blacks to say, but not OK for Hispanics and Caucasians - this is certainly not fair and is what I call a divided justice. Divided in the one party is scorned, persecuted or prosecuted and one party is not. This would apply to all races, not just black and white. Why is it OK for Chris Rock and other black comedians, actors, rappers and who knows who else to use the N* word -- but let anyone else use it and they are crucified. Being black doesn't give one unbridled authority to say racially insensitive things - even if directed at the same race. I am white and have never called any of my friends "cracker," "honky, etc.

I believe in the Constitution of the United States and with that Free Speech. However, if we have free speech for one - it is free speech for all. We cannot pick and choose who gets it and who doesn't. I may not like what Imus said...and my alternative would be not to listen to his show.

I also believe that everyone deserves a second chance - a chance to say he or she is sorry, and, to be given another chance. Imus apologized, said he was sorry, had a meeting with team he offended and was still railroaded. Let this be a wake-up call that from this day forward, if we are to judge one by these standards, all will be judged.

The Begining

It seems like everyone has their own blog these days - television, radio, newspapers and everyday people (now) like myself. I was tired of not having my own "blog," so here I am - a dreamer, a wanderer and a speaker of words.
I have always wanted my own little spot, someplace to call my own. Other than my house, my car and a grave plot, I really don't own much. Well, the bank has the titles to the house and car so I guess that just leaves me with the plot. Garden of the 23 Psalms and near the lake. Too bad it's only 5 x 10. Hopefully the blog, my little space in the seemingly endless Internet universe, will help me to feel I own a little piece of something.
makemyskincrawl - or as you have probably figured out, Make My Skin Crawl, will be devoted to everyday things that do just that. Unfair, Unjust, Inhumane, Greed, Envy, Politics, Family, Work, Neighbors, Crime...you name it.
So many of us do nothing, say nothing in an almost robotic world. We stand by and do nothing because we feel nothing can be done. Everything and everyone is a system that cannot be dismantled, that cannot be corrected. How many times do we say, "Hey, this just ain't right?" and then continue on with what we were doing. Casually mentioning it at the next day's lunch at work seems to be about as far as it gets.
Let's talk, communicate, express, share, expand, engage, rant and rave about the things you feel MAKE YOUR SKIN CRAWL... ... ... ...Luther C
